SUMMARY:Circumvention of money laundering and sanctions regulations
DESCRIPTION:The online seminar “Circumvention of money laundering and sanctions regulations” by TURN Advisory on 14 October 2026 provides a practical overview of current methods used to circumvent anti-money laundering and sanctions regulations and highlights effective countermeasures for financial institutions and companies. The focus lies on current money laundering typologies\, sanctions circumvention schemes and the increasing convergence of AML and sanctions compliance. \nRegulatory requirements are evolving continuously\, creating new challenges for financial institutions\, insurance companies and internationally active businesses. Against this background\, the seminar examines key risks and circumvention patterns that organisations will need to consider more closely in the future and demonstrates how prevention\, monitoring and decision-making processes can be systematically strengthened. \nWe are pleased to announce the online seminar taking place on Wednesday\, 14 October 2026\, from 10:00 to 16:00. The programme begins with an overview of current money laundering typologies\, including smurfing\, cash-intensive industries\, the property sector and anomalies in the layering phase. This is followed by an examination of sanctions circumvention through letterbox and shell companies\, concealed ownership structures and indirect provision. Third-country trade structures\, re-export schemes\, customs data analysis and the EU’s new anti-circumvention instrument will also be addressed. \nFurther topics include cryptocurrencies and digital payment methods as circumvention tools\, with a focus on stablecoins\, central bank digital currencies and decentralised platforms. The seminar also covers the EU Anti-Money Laundering Regulation\, current EU sanctions packages and the growing convergence of AML and sanctions compliance. Finally\, participants will explore practical approaches to strengthening risk analysis\, monitoring and internal controls and integrating these effectively into internal decision-making processes. \nThe speakers are Andreas Koukoussas\, 2nd Deputy AML Officer and Head of AML Operations at UniCredit Bank GmbH\, and Naidira Alemova\, Managing Partner at TURN Advisory. Andreas Koukoussas is a highly experienced anti-financial crime expert with many years of experience in the international banking sector. His expertise covers AFC Special Investigations\, Transaction Monitoring\, Terrorist Financing\, sanctions circumvention and fraud schemes.
